If your phone is locked then you will get an error message when you try to install an eSIM service.
In an iPhone this message will look like below with an error “Data Plans from This Network Provider Cannot Be Added”
If you are using an iPhone you can check whether your phone is locked by going into Settings, then General, then About. Scroll down until you can see the setting for ‘Network Provider Lock’. This tells you if your phone is locked – see screenshot.
You need to contact the operator that you bought the phone from and ask them to unlock it. They will unlock it remotely.
