Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) is a standard cellular protocol that allows mobile devices to send and receive messages containing multimedia content over a cellular network. It is the direct evolution of SMS (Short Message Service), expanding capabilities beyond basic, 160-character plain text.

When you send a text message that includes a photo, video, audio clip, or contact card (vCard), or when you participate in a group chat with multiple phone numbers, your carrier automatically converts and routes that message as an MMS.
